Android’s In-built Reset Option Doesn’t Actually Delete Data

In a study conducted by the security firm Avast, personal data including photos, messages and contacts were easily recovered from used Android phones even though they were reset before they were sold. Like all basic delete functions, Android’s built-in reset option only mark the storage used by files as space that may now be overwritten. Until new data is stored in its place, the “deleted” files can still be recovered using readily available recovery softwares. Avast offers a free anti-theft tool that first deletes and then overwrites. LINK
